This course examines some of the central ethical theories of the Western
tradition, including consequentialism, deontology, virtue theory, social
contract theory, theories of justice, egoism, relativism, ethics of
care. We consider the nature of moral values, what motivates moral
behaviour, how to justify moral beliefs, the role of reason, emotions,
society and the desire for happiness in moral decision-making.
